Instructions
1. Before entering the skills lab, all students will receive a pencil and select an envelope from a group of identical envelopes. One-half of the envelopes will contain a sheet of paper with a place to document cervical dilation, effacement, station, and fetal position. The other envelopes will contain an identical sheet of paper with the same information and the CxAL-Guide. The students will then select a card labeled A, B, C, and D from a bowl of identical folded cards, to insure that types of cervical manikins are randomly assigned to students. The student will proceed to the designated manikin with the envelope and card.
2. The student will put on gloves, examine the cervix of the manikin, remove gloves, and record the estimated cervical dilation, station, effacement, and fetal position on the form contained in the envelope. Students who have the CxAL-Guide will be able to use the guide to estimate cervical dilation, effacement, station, and fetal position before removing their gloves. Students will then complete the on-line questionnaire that includes their cervical assessment findings. After computer submission, students will dispose of their forms in the covered trash can next to the exam table. (Blood and body-fluid precautions will not be used for this exercise.)
